God: the Son and Spirit

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. (Genesis 1:1, 2 NLT)

Last week we spoke a little about the names of God. Two of them in particular; Jehovah Jireh and El Shaddai.

Jehovah Jirreh meaning the lord will provide, and El Shaddai meaning all sufficient one.

Genises uses many names in which God describes his nature to us. When God created the heavens and the earth, it was more than just the father. It was the term, Elohim which denotes majesty. The Hebrew word is plural to emphasize the point. But we also see a triad of personalities involved in the creation process. Today, we are going to look at some scriptures that share the role of as God the Son and God the Spirit.

I will put the scriptures below. You may add any comments you like to help our discussion.

Jesus is The Word of God Revelation 19:11-16

Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war. His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself. He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses. From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords. (Revelation 19:11-16 NLT)

2. Psalms 33:6-9

The Lord merely spoke,

and the heavens were created.

He breathed the word,

and all the stars were born. He assigned the sea its boundaries

and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. Let the whole world fear the Lord,

and let everyone stand in awe of him. For when he spoke, the world began!

It appeared at his command. (Psalm 33:6-9 NLT)

John 1:1-14

In the beginning the Word already existed.

The Word was with God,

and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him,

and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness,

and the darkness can never extinguish it. God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. (John 1:1-14 NLT)

Your thoughts on our creator and savior.

What are some thoughts you have on the knowledge that Jesus not only created, but he chose to be one of us to offer himself for us?

It amazes me that he allowed the creation to take control over the creator. Especially when he knew what the result would be.

The Spirits Role

Gen 1:1-2; 26-27

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” So God created human beings in his own image.

In the image of God he created them;

male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:1, 2, 26, 27 NLT)

Matthew 12:31-32

“So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven—except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven. Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, either in this world or in the world to come. (Matthew 12:31, 32 NLT)

Other thoughts on the Spirit

.

He works in more ways than this. We know that he is our counselor, and guide. We also know that he seals us. David mentioned this in his sermon today how we are marked with a seal of redemption. God sees that seal as a mark of his people. And he calls them his children. We are marked for the day of redemption.
The Spirit lives inside us and helps us in our walk with life. We should listen to him and not blaspheme against him.
